Virgin Media is boasting 100 Mb/s download and 5 Mb/s upload data transfer. With these speeds, it is not only thinkable to make a VPN to tunnel traffic and avoid eavesdroppers on public WiFi, but also use it to navigate the Internet as if you were at home.
Therefore, if I ever wanted to watch BBC iPlayer or other video on demand services from abroad, I could.

Here is a description on how to prepare this on Debian Linux and connect from an iPad tablet, but other distro will work the same way.

Samba logoWhen I was setting up my Debian microserver with Samba to backup/share files with my Windows 7 and Windows XP machines, I have had a bit of a fight with a few options. Here is a list of issues I encountered setting up Samba and how I solved them. I could not find a single post/site addressing all my problems, therefore this post is also a way for me to remember for next time!
setgid, chmod, smb.conf and force create mode are a few keywords defining this post.

If you see any error or think I should be clearer, do let me know and I will be thankful to correct accordingly.

TwitterTwo years ago, I did not “do” Social Media at all. Then I learnt, a bit the same way I learnt how to cook!

I started by following recipes found on the web (or grandmother for cooking), and then made my own. I mean, when you don’t really know what you are doing, you try. Then, when you understand better, you become more adventurous ;-) and you get to know which flavours work together.
